Justice Where It Is Due
Mesothelioma Diagnosis
X-ray and CT scan have limited ability to identify peural diseases and mesothelioma. If you are suspected of mesothelioma, the tests below may be performed:
Throrascopy
A thorascope is inserted into a small incision through the chest wall to enable the doctor to look inside the chest. Patients will be given anasthesia and painkiller. If fluid retention are spotted in the pleura, a thoracentesis can be done using a needle to suck out the fluid.
Peritoneoscopy
Similar to thorascopy, the doctor will use a peritoneoscope to look inside the abdomen through an incision in the abdomen. The process of removing water accumulated in the abdomen via this method is called paracentesis.
Biopsy
Tissue sample of the lung can be taken during thoracoscopy, peritoneoscopy or during separate surgery. The tissue are observed under the microscope to determine its aggresiveness.
